assignments:
All work for this course must be completed and posted in a "Multimedia" folder in your website on the portfolio server. The swf's only of your tutorials should be posted to your portfolio according to the course schedule. They should be named the same as they are in the book. For example, if I was posting the first tutorial file in Chapter Three, I would post it to http://portfolio.educ.kent.edu/wooleyrs/multimedia/pencil.swf. Do not post html files for these tutorials, simply because I will be looking for the swf files. Please send me an email indicating what your address is on portfolio sometime during the first week. You only need to do this once.
Flash Tutorials
You will complete Flash tutorials in the Flash MX 2004: Hands On Training. Chapters 1 and 2 of this text can be skipped since my Video 1 covers the same material. Posting does not begin until Chapter 3.
The Flash tutorials will consititute 40% of the final course grade.
Project 1: Flash Animation
You will develop a short animation in Flash on the topic of your choice. The movie should contain animation, user-created graphics, and tweening. Additional specifications are available on the Project 1 Specifications page. Post your project as Project1.htm or Project1.swf. Project 1 will constitute 10% of the final grade. Project 2: Instructional Website
You will produce an interactive instructional multimedia program. The program must be instructional in nature, teaching specific content and objectives. Additional specifications are available on the Project 2 Specifications page. Post your project to your portfolio site as Project2.htm or Project2.swf. Project 2 will consititute 30% of the final course grade.
Readings and Discussion
You will complete a series of readings from the Digital Multimedia text and post comments about them in the iTEC forum. You are expected to participate actively in both asyncronous and synchronous discussions. There may be occasional pop quizzes on the readings. These will appear as online timed quizzes and are much more likely to emerge if the readings seem to be neglected.
Chats and forum postings will constitute 20% of the final grade.
Grading Policies
Completing projects in a timely fashion and doing your best work is the best way of ensuring excellent performance. Please note: Unless you suffer from extraordinary adversity (i.e., legitimate medical emergencies, death in the immediate family), no incompletes will be given. Please keep up and apprise me of unusual circumstances as they occur.
Please note that Ohio Board of Regents and Kent State University policies dictate that graduate courses should require approximately 3 hours of outside class work for every hour of contact time. Grading will be based on a subjective evaluation of the time and effort invested in class work. In other words, students who do not invest the required time will not receive A or B grades. Student progress will be monitored approximately bi-weekly. It is critical to get an early start and keep up with the course requirements.
*Under unusual circumstances, such as habitual absences or special needs, the instructor will adjust the percentages of the course requirements to more accurately reflect the students effort and performance. In accordance with University policy, up to a 50% penalty may be imposed for excessive absences.
