Assignments:


design problems
(60%*): Each student will complete a series of daily design problems. Although there will be time in class to complete some of this work, additional computer time will be required.

design critiques (20%*): Each student will identify and critique the design elements of 2 examples of visuals. Each critique must include an electronic reproduction of the image with annotations of design problems and a reworked layout shwing improvements suggested in the annotated original. design portfolio (20%*): Each student will be responsible for presenting a portfolio with at least 3 elements:

  • web-page mock-up. The web page mock-up is the home page of a fictitious business or organization and should be persuasive in nature. You should not be designing the page for an actual client. You will not produce an actual web page, just a mock-up in PhotoShop. No coding or html is required. See the webpage mock-up page for more information.
  • personal ID package. The personal ID package consists of a graphically related business card, letterhead, and envelope. Each must contain common design elements and a custom logo or logotype. Please note that no commercial clip art should be included, but other graphics are permitted. See the personal ID page for more information.
  • persuasive communication. The persuasive communication can be a flyer, brochure, poster, or other mock-up that is designed to persuade the viewer toward a course of action. The final size should be no larger that 8 x 10 inches. See the persuasive

digital delivery: All work for this course will be posted to your personal web directory on the portfolio.educ.kent.edu server. No printed work or magnetic media will be accepted. Please see Posting Files for directions.
