The Ohio Board of Regents has determined that every hour of graduate course credit should represent approximately three hours of student work. Since this is a web-based course and you will not be attending class, please budget approximately 180 hours for course projects. You may find the estimated project times listed below to be helpful guides for time management. If you do not feel able to devote the amount of time required, please consider postponing this class until you can devote more attention to it. Please review the policy on incompletes and late work on the Home page. All work for this course must be completed and posted to your personal website on the portfolio server. Information about accessing this server will be described in class and is available on the resources page. Please note that considerable time will be required outside of class to complete the authoring assignments. Please plan your time accordingly.

DreamWeaver Training From the Source Chapter Mini-Projects (40%)
Each student will complete tutorial lessons in the course texts as indicated on the Schedule. There are approximately 3 tutorials per week, each ranging from one to two hours to complete. The final project from each tutorial should be posted in a folder named "AuthSys" in your portfolio space. Note that many of the assignments will require small modifications or departures from the text directions. Be sure to modify your exercise sufficiently to distinguish your work from the textbook exercises. Follow the textbook directions on file names. Total work time: Approximately 60 hours.

Authoring Tool Reviews (10%)
Each student will review two additional authoring tools and compare and contrast them with Dreamweaver MX. Microsoft Frontpage or Adobe GoLive must be one of the two selections. The second can be any tool of your choosing. You will develop a one- or two-page website to familiarize yourself with the tool. You will post your web work to the portfolio space in separate folders named Review1 and Review2 within your AuthSys folder . The actual reviews will consist of a one- or two-page summary of the features you used and your impressions of them, as well as a comparison to how those features are implemented in Dreamweaver MX. Naturally, you will want to dabble enough to speak intelligently about the tool you are reviewing. Frontpage is available for sale in WTH221 for $10. Demo versions of Frontpage and GoLive can be downloaded from the publisher's sites. Total work time: Approximately 20 hours.

Concept Mastery Exercises (10%)
Each student will complete 10 online Concept Mastery Exercises designed to demonstrate mastery of course concepts. Many of these concepts will be explained in the texts. Others should be researched on the Web. The exercises will consist of short answer definitions completed via online forms. Please note that copying and pasting search results is NOT appropriate. Total work time: Approximately 20 hours.

School or Organization Website (20%)
Each student will develop a website for a fictitious school system, business, agency, or non-profit organization. The website must contain at least three tiers and should have a sufficient number of pages at each tier to convey its design or "look and feel." The website will be evaluated on its visual design, navigation, organization, and appropriateness for the organization. Actual content including images and text can be placeholders or "greeked" characters. However, you may wish to create the content to avoid distracting the viewer with non-sequitors. Place the site in a separate folder named Website1 in your AuthSys folder. Total work time: Approximately 40 hours.

Instructional Website (20%)
Each student will develop an website designed to teach specific instructional objectives from the State of Ohio Learning Outcomes (http://www.ode.state.oh.us/proficiency) or from another bona fide curriculum, public or private. The website must objectives, learning activities, and assessment strategies that employ branching and data tracking. The website will be evaluated on its visual design, navigation, organization, and appropriateness for the organization, as well as its instructional value and efficacy. Place the site in a separate folder named Website2 in your AuthSys folder. Total work time: Approximately 40 hours.
